Our 2021 Great Taste award winning PGI 35 day dry aged West Country Choice Beef is now ready to purchase from our online shop.

Its PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) mark means that it is a quality and traditional regional food product unique to its specific geographic area. Our West Country Choice Beef is produced from specially selected animals that have been born, raised and finished in one of the six counties making up the West Country –  Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset and Wiltshire – as well as having grazed on at least a 70% forage based diet.

The Butchers

Martins Meats is an award-winning, traditional butchers based in the Cotswold village of Toddington. Our ambition is to provide our customers with the very best quality meat direct from farm to table.

We are the home of longhorn beef. Our experienced butchers produce, age, cut and pack the finest longhorn and traditional breeds of beef. Martins Meats are renowned for supplying the meat for some of the most premium restaurants and hotels across England.

At Martins Meats, we uphold the values of ensuring our beef, lamb and pork, is locally sourced and reared from free-range farms. This includes Gloucester old spot and middle white pork and Cotswold reared lamb. All our poultry and game are free-range, British meat.

Our passion to produce the finest meat was rewarded in 2013 when we won the best product in the South West with our 28-day dry aged longhorn Cote de Boeuf at the Great Tase Awards. These awards are widely recognised as the Oscars of the food world and the biggest food awards of Great Britain and Europe.

As third generation farmers, we stand by the same values as we did over 40 years ago. Providing the highest care and attention to our animals with access to open farmland, comfortable shelter and allowing them to reach full maturity. We are a family run business with the aim to enrich our local community with the most sustainable and highest quality meat.

Proud of our provenance

We buy direct from farms in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds as well as our own farm in Gretton Fields. It is important to us to use our local abattoir and we are committed to keeping our food miles low, ensuring our customers always receive the very best in ethically sourced, quality meat. This methodology has awarded us countless accolades from Michelin Chefs as well as success in the Great Taste Awards.

Martins Meats are one of the only meat producers across the South West and the Midlands to offer Himalayan Pink Rock Salt, which is excellent for its purifying and flavour – enhancing abilities. The salt particles from the bricks in the chamber draw moisture from the meat and surrounding air which seeps into the beef, adding to the flavour.

This process is called ionisation, where the negative ions from the salt counteract with the positive ions in the meat to produce a completely unique, sweet and flavoursome product. This method allows us to age the meat for up to 100 days for our ultimate cuts.
